Recently, CHCC consulted on a new healthcare entity to be established in Cayman: Doctors Express Urgent Care
Owners Sam and Winnie Banks, a Caymanian couple who are the first to bring this kind of care to Cayman, recently engaged CHCC to assist them with navigating the legal requirements of the Health Practice law and prepare for the required inspection against the National Standards.
Doctors Express has positioned its Urgent Care offering as providing “convenient, high quality, affordable healthcare” in a timely manner. They work to guarantee shorter wait times and lower cost in comparison to traditional Emergency Room or other medical clinics. They also require no appointments and allow patients to visit on a walk-in basis.
Typical services include paediatric care, flu shots, lab services, work permit medicals, and treatment of urgent illnesses and most non-life threatening health issues.
What is the difference between using an Urgent Care center and an Emergency Room? As this has never been in Cayman, this is an important distinction. In a recent video interview, Dr. Palmer describes this distinction best at around the 5:02 mark:
“If its life-threatening or limb-threatening, don’t go to Urgent Care.”
For all other minor health matters, Urgent Care is a first-of-its-kind facility that is a welcomed expansion of healthcare offerings in the Cayman Islands.
