A dedicated optometrist who had kept an office in Cayman Brac that had really ‘been there’, according to people I met on my visits to Cayman Brac, decided it was time to retire.
While efforts were made to see who would fill this gap locally, nothing had come to fruition until Optical Outlook gave this another look (pun intended)!
It took some time to navigate setting up a branch store in Cayman Brac. The principals at Optical Outlook knew of Cayman Healthcare Consulting (CHCC) and decided they needed a guide. Cayman Brac still has the old ‘coconut telegraph’ in good shape and as they were building out, Brackers would stop by in many numbers to ask when Optical Outlook would open.
While the Director of Planning agreed with Barrie Quappé of CHCC that Optical Outlook did not need government planning permission (a negotiated benefit to encourage development on the Brac), the business would still have to pass a healthcare facility inspection in accordance with the National Standards for Healthcare Facilities in the Cayman Islands.
That’s CHCC’s expertise, as Mrs. Quappé was the country’s first Health Practice & Facility Inspector for the Cayman Islands Government. She loves to help educate and guide applicants through the process.

In fact, one of the principals thanked Mrs. Quappé in an email after they passed their inspection. Here’s a portion of that note:
